Golf-based SUV coming 2018

BY : Alex Ricciuti

Volkswagen has almost fully developed a new Golf-based SUV which will be introduced in 2018, according to a report by Auto Bild.
The new SUV will fill the gap between an upcoming Polo-based SUV and the VW Tiguan. That Polo-based SUV is also due for an introduction in 2018.
Sales of the T-Roc, though, will only begin in 2019, as development delays due to the dieselgate scandal have hit Volkswagen’s scheduling. Starting price in Germany will be at around 20,000 euros.
Powering the new compact SUV will be an entry-level 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder unit with around 115 hp along with a more powerful 1.5-liter, 4 cylinder with 150 hp. That new 1.5 liter unit will be replacing the outgoing 1.4 TSI. A 2.0-liter turbo is also expected in the lineup, with a powerful version boasting an output of around 300 hp for a T-Roc GTI model.
The T-Roc will offer all-wheel drive in higher end variants but all gasoline engines on the T-Roc will be fitted with particle filters – a technology borrowed from the diesel side of things – in order to reduce emissions of particulate matter.
Another possibility will be an electric variant of the T-Roc, as Volkswagen goes all out in its plan to introduce over 30 electric models by 2025.
Unfortunately, there’s no news yet on when the T-Roc is slated to be introduced in the North American market.
