Bentley’s First Ever Diesel Engine Could Come from the SQ7

BY: Sebastien Bell
The Audi SQ7’s 4.0L triple charged diesel V8 is reportedly going to be fitted to the Bentayga. If that happens, it will be Bentley’s first diesel powered car in its 100 year history.
What a way to start, though. The powerplant comes with two conventional turbochargers and an electric turbine to get things started way down low in the rev range.
The engine has already won awards for its technological innovation, and in its current guise pumps out 435hp and 664 lb-ft of torque.
Audi SQ7 TDI
In the SQ7 it’s good enough to get to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds. To be sure, that’s not as fast as the current Bentayga with its W12 engine (3.5 seconds), but it’s still uncannily fast by any reasonable measure.
The rumors did not touch on US availability, but given the public’s current distaste for those three dieselly letters (TDI), it seems unlikely.
A gas powered V8 from the Continental GT is also expected to find its way under the Bentayga’s hood. A hybrid powertrain is also a possibility in the near future.
